Celebratin'... The Stax Sound

There's a new PBS special on Stax, the legendary Memphis record
label. “Sweet Soul Music: Stax Live in Europe 1967,” will air in
March. We decided not to wait.

Arthur Conley with "Sweet Soul Music" recorded live in
Norway. Dig the suit.

Mr. Otis Redding at the Monterrey Pop festival. This the
transcendent performance of "Try a Little Tenderness" that made him a star.

"The two and only," Sam and Dave, with a live, extended version
of the immortal "Hold On, I'm Coming."

The Blues Brothers? They were a joke, right? A late-70's, drugged-out
prank on the audience. Dude, before there was a movie, or a horrible
remake, the Blues Brothers came to play. Half the band were Stax
studio musicians, like Steve Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn.
Check out "Hey, Bartender,"the opening of their 1978 premier at
Universal Amphitheater.
